Interstate SignWays Partners with Autism Speaks

Updated: Feb 4, 2022

The Partnership

Autism Awareness Signs

Recently, we at Interstate SignWays have partnered with Autism Speaks to develop a full collection of signs dedicated to provide neighborhood safety awareness for children on the autism spectrum.

Enjoying time outdoors provides learning experiences that encourage self-discovery, communication, self-confidence, friendships and independence for children with autism spectrum disorder.

Playing outside is an important part of childhood that has many developmental benefits for children, including:

  • Skill-building

  • Turn-taking

  • Sensory play

  • Pretend play

  • Balance

  • Coordination

  • Appreciation of nature

A safe environment for children with autism spectrum disorder is crucial. Providing advanced warning signage makes drivers aware of their surroundings.

Why We Partnered

One of our employees has a nephew that has autism spectrum disorder. A large and loud truck made its way past the front yard of where the child was playing. The loudness of the truck caused the child to become overwhelmed. We thought, why not create neighborhood awareness signs that could potentially decrease these sorts of events? That story was the catalyst for this partnership.

Transparency

Starting April 1st, 2021, and lasting indefinitely, we are donating 15% of each sign sale in the Autism Awareness collection to the Autism Speaks charity. See our full collection of Autism Awareness signs.
